Fierce storms on the farthest NW tip of Scotland caused much
to be washed up on the shore.
It was the day before the New Year, again we were in Scourie. Beach combing along the edge of the Laxford estuary we happened on several velvet crabs.
It is also know as the velvet swimming crab, devil crab or lady crab and is the largest swimming
crab in British coastal waters with a body width of up to 100 millimetres (3.9
in which is coated with short hairs, giving the animal a silky texture.
