ZINNIAS – GOOD OLD JOHANN GOTTFRIED

ZINNIAS – GOOD OLD JOHANN GOTTFRIED

Zinnia is a species of plants of the sunflower 'tribe' within the daisy family. They grow naturally in South America and the southern states of the USA.

The genus name honors German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn (1727–59).

Zinnias will reseed themselves each year. Over one hundred cultivars have been produced since selective breeding started in the 19th century.

We have been blessed with a bumper Zinnia crop in the garden and on the allotment.

They attract hummingbirds in the Americas; sadly the hummingbirds have not made their way over here.
