MINIATURE SUNFLOWERS – FALL DOWN AND WORSHIP

Sian has grown a splendid show of miniature sunflowers, Helianthus debilis 'Italian White' on the Allotment, from seeds supplied by http://www.seedaholic.commarvellous place to go for huge variety of flower and vegetable seeds.

The Sunflower plant was brought to Europe in the late sixteenth century.

The Latin name is Helianthus annuus, is taken from the Greek helios, meaning sun, and anthos, meaning flower.

The Sunflower originated from South America. The flower represented the sun to worshiping Aztec people. We have certainly been giving praise to the heavens for a lovely show and cut flowers for the house.

Note: Thanks to Seedaholic for the story of Helianthus annuus.
