LIFE AND NEAR DEATH AT THE BRITISH MUSEUM

Until 29 September 2013
 Advance booking essential

Just as well the exhibition runs until September

We had the temerity to visit on a May Bank Holiday. It was a day so busy that was no place to sit if you wanted to eat in at Pret and crowds forbade a pleasurable experience in Primark.

No matter, there were treasures to be seen if your elbows were sharp. This was a good show to add a layer of understanding to our visits to Pompeii and Herculaneum in 2006.

There were delightful jewels, necklaces and bracelets displayed alongside casts of contorted figures, their strange shapes instantly mummified by tons of volcanic ash on that fateful day in November AD47.

We plan to visit again several more times before this show ends  - with hopefully less people to spoil the view.
